Raul Midón has worked with countless legends in the industry including Bill Withers, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Terence Blanchard, & Dianne Reeves to name several.
He received two Grammy nominations back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 for his albums “Bad Ass and Blind” and “If You Really Want” in the Best Jazz Vocal Category.
On his new album "Lost & Found", blind singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Raul Midón is joined on this stunning body of work with his friends Andrés Forero (Hamilton, U2) on drums & percussion, Richard Hammond (Hamilton) on bass, Federico Peña (Black Lives) on keyboards & piano.
He’s also had to learn the art of engineering with this album being the first he’s produced solely and assisted by New York recording engineer, Michael O’Reilly, whom he met while making his major label debut album “State of Mind” under the careful eye of legendary producer, Arif Mardin (Queen, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, les Bee Gees, Phil Collins, Norah Jones).
Engineering ‘Lost & Found’ came with a whole set of new challenges, given the technology for the blind is not consistent and it’s a constant struggle, one he continues to confront.
With ten delicious songs on the album, it’s a blend of what Raul calls ‘Smooth folk’, ‘Alt-Pop’ and ‘Jazz’. Something for everyone. He’s a master at combining genres, a showman with a ton of tricks and knows how to deliver that feel good energy. Whether you’re listening to the recording, or watching him live, Raul will have you feeling better about life!
Standout songs on ‘Lost & Found’ include “Keep On Keeping On”, which is an uplifting bluesy pop song. It enjoyed its debut on National TV in USA back in December, 2023 on the Jennifer Hudson Show. His performance blew everybody's mind. “The Ganja Song” is a bouncy ska-ish take on the latest cannabis craze. The song speaks to the transformational effects and how its upbeat musical treatment is meant to uplift the way a flower does.
Next Time” is a galloping rock waltz and a co-write with songwriter/author Mike Errico. It’s about seizing the day as there may not be another and every moment is a precious one. You hear a massive string section and wizardry guitar madness.
The title track “Lost & Found” is a song that Raul wrote early in his career. The lyrics were inspired by his listening to Bob Dylan reading of his poem, “Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie.” It’s a tribute to the human spirit.
Another highlight is the soulful collaboration with Ethiopian R&B songstress Wayna on their Sting-like co-write “A Condition of Love”. A song about the many aspects of love that are not necessarily romantic. An R&B ballad for modern times.
Raul’s masterful musicianship and charming melodies will have you singing along, finger-snapping, bopping and grooving till the end of time!
His strongest album to date, there’s no signs of Raul slowing down.
‘Lost & Found’ is the second album released on his own imprint ReKondite ReKords.
